Biography

Evelyn H. Yorty served as the secretary for the Kinkaid School’s Richmond campus. She was Margaret Kinkaid’s niece and attended the school when classes were still held in the Kinkaid family’s home. She had strong ties to the school and saw to it that school business went smoothly on a day to day basis. Susan Santangelo wrote that “for a generation of students, Mrs. Yorty was as inseparable from the school as Mrs. Kinkaid was. She provided just the right kind of benevolent dictatorship that made the school run smoothly, and the students remember her with great affection.” Mrs. Yorty remained at the Kinkaid School until 1959, two years after the school moved to San Felipe.
