Scope and Contents

Print Materials, letters, photographs and videos document the school's biology program, including the development and academic use of the the Kinkaid Backyard, and the students involvement in Roots and Shoots, an international program for young adults developed by the Jane Goodall Institute.

Conditions Governing Access

The Jane Goodall DVD (box 17B1, item 4) may not be readable by all systems.  The computer must have a DVD player or a DVD decoder installed.  If a DVD decoder is downloaded for use with the system's media player, an additional codec may be required.  A program that will scan and identify the missing codec is available at the following website: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Goo Media Center (http://sourceforge.net/projects/goomediacenter/) will work for viewing the video, but it could not extract the files from the disc, so no preservation or access copy has been made.

Accruals

Accession number 2008-020 was added to the records group after the death of Katherine Leathem.  It includes her obituary, the program from her memorial service, and a seed packet that was distributed at the service.

Accession number 2009-023 was added to the records group afterthe death of Katherine Leathem.  It is a photograph book compiled by her daughter, Sandra Nichols, and entitled "Katherine Dietz Leathem: Mother, Teacher, Friend."

Processing Information

Items initially accessioned as # 2007-015. Final collection processing completed by Julia McGarey in February of 2009. Materials have been rearranged at the subseries level to establish intellectual order and facilitate use.  Photographs and wooden plaques are stored separately from paper materials for preservation purposes.
